Meghan Marohn

Meghan Marohn was a 42-year-old schoolteacher and poet from New York that disappeared in Lee, Massachusetts on March 27, 2022. At the time of her disappearance, she had checked into The Red Lion Inn, seeking a break due to emotional distress. Her 2017 Subaru Impreza was found parked on Church Street at Longcope Park but her belongings (including phone, identification, computer, etc.) were missing.

Chris Hedges is a journalist and author in addition to being a friend of Meghan. Four months following her disappearance, Hedges shared a blog post in which he states that Marohn confided in him about the steps she had taken to elude a person she claimed was stalking her in the days prior to her disappearance. According to Hedges, Marohn “had gone into hiding to escape from a man whom she said had 'brutally harassed and intimidated me because I wouldn't sleep with him.’”

In August 2022, a hiker discovered Meghan Marohn's laptop near a stream in Janet Longcope Park. Her cellphone was later discovered about 65 feet away by a search and rescue team. It is unclear why these items were not discovered during extensive initial searches as GPS data shows that searchers passed over them at a time when no vegetation was obstructing the view. Her remains were discovered in September outside the park, but her cause of death could not be determined due to decomposition. The missing pieces, such as her wallet, and the circumstances around the discovery of her belongings continue to puzzle her family.

Portions of the case remain under investigation, and law enforcement has not ruled out any possibilities.
